What technology will you pick to print labels
Digital printing
Fast and inexpensive solutions. One can use MS Word templates; print an entire sheet or just some of the labels. Beware of paper jam if feeding the same paper multiple times through the printer.
Laser
Production of smudge and water-resistant output. Versatility of support materials. Long-term durability to UV light. Exposure of labels to chemical is not recommended.
Ink jet
Photo quality graphics including logos and images. Output is alcohol resistant. The expensive ink cartridge and tendency to smear and smudge are drawbacks.
Thermal printing
Direct Thermal
Perfect for cryogenic storage, id with barcode ad serial numbers. Cost is the lowest among all printing options since it requires no ink, toner or ribbons. Drawback it its sensibility to UV, heat and chemicals. The printout fades over time. Alcohol and solvent will make the printout getting darker.
Thermal Transfer
Printers creates sharp printouts. Meant to print small labels and barcodes. There are a large choice of labels support and adhesive options. It offers more solutions insuring resistance from chemical, cold, hot temperature and outdoor exposure among others.
